Germany is a leading country in the area of environmental technologies . This includes e. g. the sectors of water, waste, renewable energy and mobility. These are not only preserving the environment but also have a major economic importance. Just in the recycling economy 200,000 employees in 3,000 companies are working. They generate about 40 billion euros turnover annually. 15,000 plants for recycling and other types of treatment are operated. The results are high recycling rates for municipal waste (60%), industrial waste (60%) and construction and demolition waste (90%).

Germany has evolved a system from a basic collection and disposal to a complex and partly automated management of material flows. The efficient use of resources and the integration of renewable energies have high priority.
